Welcome to the first official post on the Stoic Engineer. I have tried and failed a few times to get this blog off the ground and running, but I’m finally reaching a place in my life where it feels right. The purpose of this blog is to serve others. I want to write and create in order to help people by sharing some of things I’ve learned on my quest to be a stoic engineer. Most of the focus will be around the career aspect, but I am hoping a lot of it can be applied to improve people’s lives in general.

I don’t know what this blog is going to be exactly. That’s kind of the point of it for now as we get started. I am almost certain the vision I have now will evolve as time goes by. That’s great. My whole life has been an iterative process and I think this blog will reflect something similar. No matter what it ends up being, I am excited for the journey and I only hope I can share some insights that will help people.

A few of the themes that I am sure you can expect to see,

STOICISM

My interest in the concept of stoicism and its principles is relatively new. The more I learn, the more I like it. There are a lot of key principles and values that you can apply to any aspect of your career and life, but I am particularly interested in how these can be applied and how they impact my career as an engineer and manager.

ENGINEERING TECHNICAL AND MANAGEMENT

I love being an engineer, and I love being a manager. There will be a number of posts specific to the tech and engineering world, but I am hoping some of it can be general advice that applies to anyone regardless of their career. However if you are in the tech world, you are in the right place.

SELF IMPROVEMENT

Over the last 15 years, I have had a consistent interest in self improvement. I’ve always had this idea in my head that one day it was all going to come together, almost like a light bulb would switch on and I was going to become a productivity machine. From then on it was going to be 120 hours of high level work output a week, plus major money, success, no stress, and pure joy.

Well, that’s not how life works, it’s been a slow but constant journey of self improvement with ups and downs, but ultimately trending toward where I want to be. Experience has been the best teacher for me, and I hope to share some of the things that I have learned along the way.

Once again, my only hope with this blog is that I can create something that at least one person will find useful and beneficial to their life. If that happens, I view this as a success.

With that we begin, let’s see where the path leads.
